Today a 9 year loses faith in people. She is a girl who may or may not be transgender. She wears her brother's shorts and shirts at school and plays mostly with boys. She is sweet and has the biggest heart of any kid I ever met. She loves animals and takes care of everyone. She is intelligent and curious and beautiful inside and out. And she lost another friend today because the friends parents won't let them play with her. How sad is that.
How can we move forward as a society when there are so many people who cannot see beyond their own prejudice? What are they teaching their children and this sweet 9 year old? I can hardly type this for the tears.
What horrible thing do they expect will happen to their children if they play with her? She is fun and interesting and great company. She is a great friend. They would be lucky to have her as a friend. Blast their intolerance and I hope the kids are saddened by their parent's decision and confused enough to challenge or at least doubt the wisdom. This could be that point in a child's life when they realize that their parents are not always right and start looking beyond them for guidance and answers. A lot for a 9 year old to process.
A little girl will cry herself to sleep tonight.
She is strong and determined to be what she is in spite of any obstacles. She is awesome just as she is and anyone who knows her knows that.
Please, think before you break someone's heart.
