Hello all you fans of violent movies that kill lots of people for no good reason. JOHN WICK movies are the perfect example of excessive violence. I am a fan, of action movies that have some unique moves, action sequences that transcend the expected and fly into the realm of the impossible but do it so well that it does not matter. John Wick movies have always been that for me. Keanu Reeves has the right mixture of a star that can makes us root for him because of some undefinable likability but also can convince us of the potential violence that is ready to explode without thought or conscience. Each of the movies in the JOHN WICK series are satisfying in all regards. I will admit to a problem justifying all the killing in #4 because John is directly responsible for the mess he finds himself. He broke the rule even after being reminded of the consequences and a lot of people died because of him, including friends. I could not root for him at the beginning of #4 but I went to see the movie anyway, having already invested in #1 - #3. Have to finish what I started. I am glad I did because it was awesome. The 222 stairs left ME breathless even as I sat in my chair watching it. Awesome ending also. Well worth the time and money spent on it.
I want to explain why I like these movies. It is not because I want to kill people, I am actually non-violet and non-NRA and I do not own a gun, although I may get one if the Republicans do not settle down. I think it boils down to good guys vs bad guys and the good guys win. In the case of JOHN WICK, it is hard to tell who is the good guy, we are calling John Wick the good guy because he wanted out of the life and got out, but went back to it at the first opportunity, so he is a good guy? He is a dog lover so he cannot be all bad so we will go with that. John Wick, Bowery King, Charon, and Winston are good guys (even though they are not). Let us call the four of them good friends. So now who are the bad guys? Russian mob are the bad guys or good guys depending on the movie. The bad guys in #4 are THE TABLE and we don't know who they are except for their representative who really wants John Wick dead. With a huge price on his head, a lot of people want John Wick dead. The action is spectacular, very well choreographed, and the choreography is what keeps me interested. Fight sequences and car chases and such are designed and rehearsed (if possible) and when it is done, the actors get up and go home and eat dinner. I have seen car crashes in real life and get sick to my stomach because it involves real people spilling actual blood. and Tarantino movies are a bit much, excessive violence for the sake of violence. The HATEFUL EIGHT was awful, I am so sorry I watched it. But I sat through four JOHN WICK movies and loved it. Go figure.
